At RJ Quality Lobster we are happy to be second!... "Our customers come first."
We live and work out of Nova Scotia Canada, the world’s most famous destination for Lobster.
OUR SUPPLIER
Hall's Harbour Lobster Pound Ltd. is located in Hall's Harbour, one of the last authentic fishing villages surviving along the Fundy coast of Nova Scotia. We are an international exporter of # 1 grade, "Live Canadian Lobster (Homarus Americanus) With a close proximity to Halifax International Airport, we are able to ship live lobster every day of the year to our worldwide client base. Lobsters are packed in either 30 lb styros for bulk shipments or in 33 lb wax-lined cartons for container shipments. Our boxes are leakproof, fully insulated and approved by all the major airlines. The number of gel packs used will vary, depending on the time of year and the customer's requests.
To ensure our customers needs will be met we purchase our lobsters from a wide variety of sources which includes local fishermen as well as dealers throughout Nova Scotia and New Brunswick. We rotate our stock continually.

Over the past few years we have been slowly increasing our plant size and our steady clientele. We have just added another extension on our building and acquired a second facility, which increases our holding capacity to 65,000 lbs. of live product. This now allows us to pack lobsters in one area without interfering with our grading crew, maximizing efficiency and minimizing the time lobsters are out of the water. This addition features a state of the art trickletray system. This system as well as our unique tubing system which holds lobsters individually, and our refrigerated water, keeps quality control the top priority. Our highly trained and experienced staff handles the product with care through every step of the process, quality being the prime concern.
THEN AND NOW
The buildings which are presently known as the Halls Harbour Lobster Pound, home to Hall's Harbour Lobster Pound Ltd ., date to the 1820's. They have served in former years as a school house, church and meeting hall, a general store, way station, customs office, blacksmith's shop, etching studio and shipyard from which the Ella Moore Tarquentine was launched as well as three 60-70 ft. schooners. The smaller buildings were used as fish sheds, summer camps and an ice house.
The Halls Harbour Lobster Pound now serves as one of the largest lobster holding facilities in Canada with the ability to hold up to 65,000 pounds of lobsters. It features new state of the art technology including refrigerated water and a new trickle tray and floating pools holding system. From this facility, lobsters are packed and shipped wholesale to points from Europe to Asia. Our business is expanding with new products, services and markets all over the world.

Hall's Harbour Lobster Pound is also home to the "Lobster in the Rough" dining experience. During the warm weather, locals and visitors alike flock to this tiny fishing village to select and have prepared in the on site cook shack, a sample of the world renowned Bay of Fundy lobster. The experience is heightened by devouring this delicacy while seated in our waterfront dining room - the prime stage for observing the Fundy Tides - the highest tides in the world. At low tide the wharf is high and dry and the fishing boats wait patiently on the harbour bottom until the tide rises as much as an inch a minute to the 40 foot high tide mark on the wharf. Truly a phenomenon to witness! The scene is set with some lobster traps, fishing boats, the scents of pine and sea wrack with a gang of hungry seagulls hanging around. Is there a better way to eat lobster?
HALLS HARBOUR
...One of the few authentic fishing villages surviving along our shores dating to 1779 when NS held a proud place among the seagoing peoples of the world. Captain Hall and his privateers used the natural harbour as a base.

...Now an official tourist destination area, the harbour is home to pretty sights, friendly people and a way of life fast disappearing.
...Hall's Harbour and it's 45 ft. tides were featured three times in National Geographic and were the subject of a film for Sesame Street. The effect of the tides on the inner harbour was captured by time lapse photography and included in a film for IMAX called "the Living Sea".
THE BAY OF FUNDY
The Bay of Fundy's shape and prevailing ocean currents conspire to create the highest tides in the world. Experience what happens as 3,680 billion cubic feet of water pour in and out of the "funnel" not once but twice each day: Boats and even ocean-going ships stranded high and dry. Vast tidal flats waiting to be explored. The water goes out so far that you have to look for it. This ebb and flow generates enough power to meet all the world's power needs, if only it were harnessed.
Nova Scotia bends when the tide comes in! As the seawater flows into the Minas Basin twice daily, the Nova Scotia countryside actually tilts slightly under the immense load.
Tidal ranges have been recorded as great as 55 feet, with forty feet not uncommon at Hall's Harbour.
At low tide the wharf is high and dry and the fishing boats wait patiently on the harbour bottom until the tide rises as much as an inch a minute to the 40 foot high tide mark on the wharf. Truly a phenomenon to experience.
